Welcome to Ecolibrio!
My jewelry and accessories are created out of a celebration of life! I seek to discover the fascination that exists in the ordinary and the extraordinary. With this in mind, I strive to create something beautiful as well as useful out of something deemed worthless. I find more personal satisfaction in creating art with challenging recycled materials than any other medium. The name "Ecolibrio" is a combination of the Spanish translation for equilibrium (equilibrio) and Eco-friendly ideals. I believe in finding a balance between what is good for the earth and maintaining a high quality of life.
On this site you will find items made with a combination of recycled materials (usually cables and wires), beads and metals. I have included a list of "Recycled Products Used" with each piece. If a material has made it onto this list it means just that...it's recycled. I am always looking to recycle something bound for the trash bin into my art. Even beads are recycled into new, fresh designs. It is great fun!
Margaret is a self-taught artist born near San Francisco, California in 1972. After creating beaded jewelry for 10 years, in 2006 she launched Ecolibrio when her husband handed her a bag of computer wires and simply stated, “I don’t want to throw these out, but I don’t need them so maybe you can create something.” She liked the idea of recycling or upcycling this often overlooked portion of e-waste into fabulous jewelry & accessories and saving them from the landfill. Her mind automatically went to its usual first step which was to figure out how to make something before buying/ordering/shipping. She structures her business around this philosophy. She has created the techniques and designs as she goes along, inspired by her friends and family, her love of music and culture, and her desire to be fabulous.
